If you have been keeping up with all that has been happening in the AI world, you know there are several platforms that allow you to create your own AI bots. Instagram now lets you do exactly that for your social life through its AI Studio. We explore what this feature is and how it works in detail, below.
What is Instagram AI Studio
As the name suggests, this feature is a digital studio that allows you to create your own AI characters. This is different from Meta AI which mainly helps with general tasks like answering questions or providing recommendations on Meta’s social apps.
Through Instagram AI Studio, you can create a character that can talk to you, create memes, give advice, and much more. If you are a creator on the platform, you can customize its behavior, tone, and responses to make it an extension of yourself or your brand. Creator AI can engage with the DMs and story replies, sounding exactly like you.
Get those “Product link, please” messages often after creating a post? Your AI character can handle those by automatically sharing the links you choose to queries like these. These responses are labeled, so you can be transparent with your audience as well.
You also have the option to share your characters with your friends, followers, and other Meta users. Instagram AI Studio, however, cannot be accessed on a computer for now. You can do other things like posting reels on Instagram on a desktop.
Type of AI Characters You Can Create in AI Studio
You can create any character based on your personality, brand, or goals. Want a character that cracks jokes like you? Create an AI with a sense of humor that matches yours.
Experimenting with your cooking skills in your kitchen? Create an AI character that shares recipes and cooking tips (or even offers encouragement when a dish doesn’t turn out as planned).
How to Create an AI Character With Instagram AI
To create your own AI character, start by launching Instagram and opening your DMs. Tap the pen icon in the top-right corner and select AI Chats. This will take you to a window showcasing a list of popular AI characters you can chat with.
To create your own, tap Create and choose an idea from the provided options. If none of the listed ideas resonate with you, choose the Custom AI Character option.
Next, describe your AI character, give it a name, and set its audience. This is where you define the personality and purpose of your AI. Once that’s done, head to the Advanced Settings section to refine the details.
Here, you can add elements like a welcome message, icebreakers, and specific instructions for how the AI should interact with others.
When everything is set, tap Chat with AI Character to finalize the process. It will take approximately 10 seconds for your character to come to its (digital) life. You can find it in the DMs and start chatting.
Share Your Instagram AI Character
If you want more people to access your AI characters, you can adjust the audience settings.
There are two ways to do this: during the creation process or after your character is complete. While creating your character, follow steps 1-4 mentioned earlier. Then, tap on Audience and select who you want to have access.
If you prefer to adjust the settings after your character is created, simply launch the character in your DMs, tap the gear icon in the top-right corner, and choose Audience. From there, you can update the access settings to suit your needs.
Once selected, tap Done. You can also find your contacts on Instagram to share your characters with if you haven’t already.
