CapCut, the video editing app from ByteDance, which also owns TikTok, is once again back online in the US after being inaccessible for days. However, the uncertainty surrounding its availability persists due to the looming federal ban. In light of this situation, we’ve compiled a list of the best CapCut alternatives to ensure you can continue editing videos, even if your favorite app becomes unavailable again. Having a backup option is always wise, especially during these unpredictable times.
Good to know: learn how to create a duet on TikTok.
1. Adobe Premiere Rush
Price: Free with premium options
Available for: Android, iOS, Windows, macOS
Adobe Premiere Rush is one of the best CapCut replacements out there that you need to try. Designed for on-the-go video editing, it’s an easier-to-use alternative to heavy-duty tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, which can be overwhelming with their extensive features.

The app offers all the tools you need to create clear and concise videos for posting on social media. It operates via drag-and-drop, allowing you to easily arrange clips, add effects or preset graphics, and customize edits. Premiere Rush also has an audio gallery for adding music to your clips. On the other hand, you should know that most elements are not free to use, and you’ll need a premium subscription to unlock the app’s full potential.
It is good to know that Adobe Premiere Rush’s files can be converted into Premier files, so professionals can start their work in Rush on their mobile phones and later import their files in Premier for more advanced fine-tuning.
2. InShot
Price: Free with premium options
InShot is my go-to option when I want to quickly edit a video on my phone. I’m not an advanced user and I consider this app’s interface more intuitive and easy to work with. It also supports photo editing and lets you create collages.

The app has most tools needed to boost the appeal of your videos. It lets you add effects, filters, stickers, and text. An audio library is also available and there’s the option to include voice effects and more. You can also play around with animations, add masks or backgrounds, and even try out AI features such as AI Cut. This detects and removes pauses and filler words in videos.
As expected, InShot has some features that it reverses for paid users. In the free version, the app will add a watermark to edited videos. If you want to remove it, you’ll need to upgrade to premium.

3. Canva
Price: Free with premium options
Available for: Android, iOS, Web
Canva is another mobile-friendly option that also comes with a web version if you prefer to do your edits on a PC. I find it just as intuitive as InShot, although it doesn’t offer as many options when it comes to editing. Yet, for a few quick alterations, Canva can be the perfect tool.

Especially since it includes an extensive library of templates you can tap into. Of course, not all are free to use without a premium account, but there are plenty of options to experiment without paying a dime. If you want to make your edits manually, Canva lets you add all kinds of elements or filters and gives you the option to adjust things like white balance, texture, light, and so on.
Canva also has an AI generator tool that can create images, graphics, and videos based on your input. While it’s still experimental new technology, it’s still fun to play with it.
4. Filmora
Price: Free with premium features
Available for: Android, iOS, Windows, macOS
Filmora is another CapCut alternative that should be on your radar. It offers an intuitive interface that resembles InShot where editing options are available at the bottom.

Filmora lets you add audio, text, filters, effects, and stickers to your video. Some of these options are free, but you need to subscribe to the premium plan to be able to access the bulk of Filmora’s library. The app lets you modify settings such as saturation, vibrance, brightness, and more. If you need inspiration, Filmora also has some templates for you to try.
The app has a strong AI component, offering features such as AI Reels Maker which can create an Instagram-ready Reel using photos and/or videos. You can even create a video based on a prompt, although this is a Pro feature. Other options such as AI Beat Sync and AI Remover (to remove objects from videos) are available to try for free once.
5. KineMaster
Price: Free with premium options
KineMaster is an app that’s aimed at more advanced users who prefer the convenience of editing on the go. It has a landscape interface, which I found, simplifies the editing process. Although for some pros, it might feel a bit unusual.

KineMaster delivers smooth, precise performance and robust feature set, including layers with frame-by-frame editing, volume envelope control, chroma key compositing, filters, and 3D transitions. It also supports animations and boasts some of the best audio tools and remixing capabilities available.
The free version, as expected, has one major downside – your videos will have a watermark. However, upgrading to a paid plan eliminates this issue.

6. DaVinci Resolve
Price: Free with premium options
Available for: Windows, macOS, Linux
For advanced video editors who want to take their videos to the next level, a tool like DaVinci Resolve might be the answer. This solution, however, is not available on mobile devices except Apple’s iPad.

DaVinci offers an impressive array of features, including a robust node-based special effects system, advanced audio tools, keyframing, and sophisticated color grading capabilities. Recent updates have introduced AI-powered features like text-based editing and auto-captioning. While the software is renowned for its stability, the wealth of options can make it challenging to learn.
You can use DaVinci Resolve for free, but the free version has some feature restrictions – such as the inability to export 4K video at 60fps in 8-bit color. Professionals or frequent video editors might find the paid version worth the investment, particularly since it offers a lifetime license.
