This may be surprising to many US or Euro readers, but it’s probably worth remembering that the idea of ‘the commons’ is a Eurocentric one. The idea that one can take at will from nature, which in this context is ‘publicly available data’, is not greeted so enthusiastically by those of us who have concerns about our digital sovereignty.
