All they had was dos and after a while, just by using dos, it wasn’t long until I knew most of the common commands. That happened because most commands were 3 letters and there was an option that told you what the command was used for. I have been a Linux user for many years now, however I have never found a place or website, book, or anything else to tell me what these different letters, dashes, and all the other things that you have to put into your command line in order to make something happen, mean. Does a website exist that will tell me what these things mean? When I read a tutorial like yours that I just read through to try and glean some knowledge about using terminal, it becomes a total waste of my time. Also with everything pared down to a conglomeration of letters which usually mean nothing to me because I don’t use terminal enough to understand what these things mean.
I would like to use terminal more but unless there is a highlight box that gives me the commands in a certain order to follow the whole thing become redundant.

We no longer need to use kerosene lamps to provide light or use horse and buggy. Neither do we need to use terminal to enjoy Linux.
