My wife has played Texas Holdem’ on Poker Stars on playonlinux for years. You don’t need to keep a Windows computer. The installation can be a bit challenging, I had to try twice to get it working for her.

True, I started using open source software like open office, clementine and smplayer because I either wasn’t happy withe Windoze software our unwilling to pay outrageous prices for it and did not want to pirate software. When I saw how great open source software was I decided to switch to Linux.

When you (or your non-geek friend/spouse) switch, everything will feel familiar.

No, I’m not the only on using Linux but that is MY individual opinion. Everybody is entitled to choice. Just because hundreds of millions of people are doing the same thing does not mean EVERYBODY must do it.

You aren’t the only person using Linux though. Some things you simply can’t do using Linux. Example: there is no poker site that produces a client for Linux. That is the only reason I still have one laptop running Windows (the rest run Linux, except for one that dual-boots…I have a lot of computers). Also, WINE isn’t an emulator (its in the acronym).

This is a problem that will even confuse a hard-core linux/windows user. The shared directory set-up is confusing.
