Although USB-C adapters are becoming more commonplace, you may still have old devices and chargers with USB-A ports. Rather than completely replacing them, buying a USB-C adapter sometimes makes more sense. Since trying to find a high-quality adapter can be time-consuming and daunting, we’ve compiled a list of our five favorites.
Our Criteria
Choosing the best USB-C adapter requires a deeper assessment than you may think. Besides picking one that fits your needs in general, you also have to ensure that the adapter will last. Below are the criteria we used to narrow down this list to the absolute best options.
Portability
Having a portable adapter was the most important element we looked for when compiling this guide. While some are bigger than others, it’s essential that you can easily carry your adapter around. You never know when you will encounter a scenario in which you can only access a USB-A adapter. Like a USB flash drive, you won’t carry your adapter around if it’s too big.
Durability
I’ve bought some cheap adapters and similar accessories, such as chargers. It never ends well. For this reason, I made durability a key consideration. The material used in these adapters was important, and so was the overall build. You don’t want to purchase something that breaks within a few uses.
Device compatibility
Depending on which device you use, you may need multiple adapters. For this reason, we made device compatibility a key part of our criteria. While some of these adapters are more for general use, you’ll also find a handful designed for specific devices, manufacturers, and operating systems.
1. Best Overall: Anker USB-C Adapter
Anker is one of my favorite brands for third-party phone and computer accessories, and it does not disappoint with this USB-C adapter. This is a two-adapter set — perfect if you need to connect your smartphone, headphone case, or something similar.

This adapter is compatible with several manufacturers, including Apple and Samsung devices. You can use it with computers, smartphones, tablets, and more. It’s built with scratch-proof aluminum, meaning you can throw the adapter in your bag without worrying.
Anker claims that you can plug and unplug these adapters up to 10,000 times. At the very least, your adapters should last you three to five years. You can continue using these even after you upgrade your devices.
2. Best Overall Value: Syntech USB-C Adapter
Syntech’s USB-C adapter is a simple and affordable way to connect devices that still use a USB-A cable. Available in two colors, it can be used with virtually any device. Since it’s so versatile, Syntech’s USB-C adapter is our top pick for the best overall value.

With this adapter, you can transfer data at up to 10Gbps, which is fast enough for almost all use cases. Moreover, thanks to its 5V/2A support, your devices will charge more efficiently. The adapter’s design is deliberately slimmer so that you can access all USB ports on your device, rather than having one or more obstructed.

3. Best for Apple Users: Apple Multiport Adapter
Though larger than the other USB-C adapters on this list, I really enjoy using Apple’s multiport adapter. I purchased it in 2022 after upgrading to a MacBook Pro, and it’s still going strong today. As it was designed specifically for Apple devices, it’s the best option if you have a MacBook, iPhone, or iPad.
The adapter comes in the same design as many Apple accessories: the bulk of it is white, while the symbols are gray. Though not made from aluminum, it’s still very durable.

In addition to USB-A, you can connect HDMI and other USB-C devices. Note that this doesn’t support SD cards – you’ll need to buy a separate adapter for that. The cable will work with all devices that have at least iOS 12.3 or macOS Mojave 10.14.6.
4. Best for Heavy-Duty Use: DuHeSin 240W USB-C Adapter
Checking the power output of your USB port can help you determine how long devices will take to charge. Moreover, you’ll have a better idea of your data transfer duration. DuHeSin has a USB-C adapter that can support up to 240 watts, making it the best of its kind for heavy-duty users.

This adapter has an LED screen and offers data transfer speeds of up to 40GBps, which is significantly faster than many of its competitors. You can use it as soon as you plug the adapter in to your computer, without needing anything extra.
DuHeSin’s adapter is compatible with several devices, including Apple.
5. Best for Use With Smartphones: UGREEN USB-C Adapter
The UGREEN USB-C adapter was designed specifically for use with smartphones, including an ultra-thin outer case. UGREEN designed it so that you could use it even if you have a phone case up to two millimeters thick. For this reason, it’s the best USB-C adapter for smartphone users.

It’s durable, too, with scratch-resistant alloy, while also limiting the chances of overheating. Regardless of what you need to transfer, this adapter should help you do so without issues.
UGREEN’s adapter should last around 10,000 plugging and unplugging sessions. It is available in Space gray and Black. It has 10Gbps transfer speeds and an ultra-thin design.
Choosing the right USB-C adapter requires thinking about multiple elements, such as durability and compatibility. Since many of them are quite affordable, you should have no problems finding something that meets your budget. If you’re looking for USB-C cables instead of adapters, you’ll find plenty of options as well.
